Friday Nights on the Balcony are Cask nights:
Each subsequent Friday during October fest we will have a cask lager. For those of you had tried them last year you know how special these beers are; unpasteurized Franconian lager from tiny farmhouse breweries that do not not distribute out of their little villages. These beers are available to us through the efforts of Monschof brewery. The owner of Monschoff takes his own kegs around to these breweries and has them filled and then ships them to the US in very limited quantities with his own beer. Just like cask Ale these beers can only be served the night they are tapped. We have enough to tap 2 per night for a month but If I am not sure of the crowd I'll only tap one. RSVPs will help me determine how many to tap each Friday. Please see the attached list of beers and descriptions. The regular draft offerings are pretty special and will be coming on line Sept 17th.
Saturday Sept 11th Dan Stein's birthday party. You have to pay for your own beer but we will have a cask & Dan will pick the Tap list on the balcony. Come help us celebrate one of our favorite beer lovers!
Saturday Sept 18th the balcony will be closed for a private event.
Cicerone is the 'Sommelier' Certification program for beer. the only one of its kind it seeks to raise the standard of education for servers of beer in the US. there are three levels of certification beginning with basic serving knowledge and continuing through brewing and beer judging.
In Aug./Sept. Ray Daniels will come to New Orleans to conduct his level 2 and 3 certification - you can become level one certified online and continue your education when he travels to New Orleans in late summer. An optional review course will be held and can be attended by people not wishing to take the certification test. This is the first time he has been in this part of the country and The Pub is very excited to host this very special event. For more information or registration for the event please consult the Cicerone website.
